About The Position

The Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, a global network of policy research centers, is seeking a full-time Deputy Information Technology Director to serve as the deputy to the CIO and lead day-to-day IT operations and cybersecurity. The position supervises the Cybersecurity and Network Administrator, the Cloud Systems Administrator, and the Help Desk Administrator, and oversees the IT office when the CIO is unavailable. The position oversees Carnegie's cybersecurity program, including security tools, incident response, and network infrastructure in Washington, DC and at Carnegie's five global centers. Key tools include EDR, SIEM, vulnerability management, threat exposure, email threat protection, phishing simulation, DLP, and other security and network management systems. The position works with the CIO to set security priorities, assess emerging threats, and report on security posture to management. In partnership with the CIO, the position also helps develop multi-year IT and network plans, build business cases and budget recommendations, manage key service providers, and align technology initiatives with organizational goals. The role also contributes to business continuity and disaster recovery planning and keeps IT policies and documentation current. The position oversees Carnegie's cloud environments and productivity suites.

Requirements

  • 15+ years of progressive IT leadership experience, including overseeing helpdesk operations, developing IT strategic plans, and partnering with executive leadership.
  • Experience managing cybersecurity programs and cloud environments at scale is highly desired.
  • Knowledge of firewall configuration, PowerShell, and network architecture is highly valued.
  • A bachelor's degree in a related field (or equivalent experience) is preferred.
  • Strong communicator and mentor, comfortable working at both strategic and hands-on levels.
  • Requires working onsite at Carnegie's Dupont Circle office in Washington, DC at least 3 days a week.
  • Occasional off-hours onsite work, including for security incidents.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience at nonprofits.
  • Experience with enterprise AI solutions, agentic AI governance, and MCP configurations is a plus.
  • Certifications such as CISSP, PMP, ITIL, or Cisco/Microsoft credentials are a plus.
