About The Position

The Virginia Department of Health Professions (DHP) mission is to ensure safe and competent patient care by licensing health professionals, enforcing standards of practice, and providing information to health care practitioners and the public. The Deputy Director provides professional operational support to the Executive Director for the Boards of Counseling, Psychology, and Social Work by managing and coordinating licensing processes and operations, regulatory and audit processing, and assisting the Executive Director on matters related to Board policy, management, and operations.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated knowledge of presenting information to groups/conferences.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Administrative Process Act and Freedom of Information Act.
  • Working knowledge, skills and abilities in a health regulatory environment and of healthcare principles and practices.
  • Effective analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to apply comprehensive knowledge of program activities and their impact on agency strategic mission in order to direct complex and/or multiple programs.
  • Demonstrated knowledge regarding Information Technology, computer skills, as well as MS Office Suite.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing with agency personnel, Board members, applicants, licensees, stakeholders and the public.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage and supervise employees, including the ability to establish and evaluate performance goals.
  • Demonstrated ability to thoroughly review and analyze license applications, supporting documents, audit findings, licensing and regulatory processes, and make independent decisions.
  • Extensive knowledge of the laws, regulations and policies related to the 29 professions regulated by the Boards of Counseling, Psychology and Social Work.
  • Ability to work independently and under direction, to instruct staff, to interpret and apply policy, develop and implement management procedures.
  • Ability to conduct research, interpret data and make sound judgments.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and prioritize workflow and support the licensure and administrative activities of the Boards with complex regulations and operating procedures.
  • Ability to implement and apply law and regulation; to develop policies and procedures, and identify and analyze problems and formulate solutions.
  • Advanced comprehension of computer programs for the analysis of data and generation of reports.
