About The Position

The Deputy Director oversees the daily operations of programs, ensuring quality services are delivered consistently with an emphasis on the needs and expectations of the people supported. This role acts as a liaison with licensing entities, ensures program services and records meet state, federal, and local requirements, and is responsible for e-prep applications. The Deputy Director provides support and supervision to Directors, Managers, and Direct Support staff, researches and develops new program components, and oversees policy and procedure development. They stay informed about state regulations and current trends, facilitate the LTSS internal transition plan, and educate staff on waivers, services, and related policies. This position oversees the person-centered planning process and participant funding streams, including documents like the DSAT. The Deputy Director serves on internal and external committees as appointed by the CEO, builds strong relationships with families, advocates, and stakeholders, and attends all scheduled meetings. Staff are required to use agency electronic systems for communication, timekeeping, and documentation. The role includes direct supervision of Department Directors, focusing on knowledge growth, mentoring, and coaching. Budgeting for each department to align with funding is also a key responsibility. The Deputy Director must check and respond to emails daily for proper communication and ensure all activities align with the mission, values, philosophy, and management principles of Athelas Institute, Inc. Other duties may be assigned by the CEO.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree or the equivalent in Education, Health Services, Psychology, Social Work or related field. (10 years executive management experience may be considered in place of master’s degree if paired with a Bachelor’s Degree)
  • Ten years supervisory experience in the human service field specializing in intellectual/developmental disabilities.
  • Five working with persons who are diagnosed with intellectual/developmental disabilities.
  • Knowledge of COMAR and Medicaid Waiver regulations as it pertains to I/DD.
  • Knowledge of HCBS Settings requirements.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organization and managerial skills.
  • Applicant must be able to successfully demonstrate all Mandt Systems training physical interventions and techniques, to include assisting supported person to standing, providing assistance with ambulation, physical releases, and physical restraints.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees daily operations of programs, ensuring quality services are delivered consistently with an emphasis on the needs and expectations of the people we support.
  • Acts as a liaison with licensing entities in regards to licensing and service approval packets.
  • Ensures that program services and records meet the requirements of state, federal and local governing or licensing bodies.
  • Responsible for e-prep applications.
  • Provides support and supervision to Directors, Managers and Direct Support staff.
  • Researches, develops and assists in the coordination and implementation of new components of any program.
  • Oversees policies and procedure development as well as any other requirements necessitated by the licensing bodies or funding sources.
  • Keeps abreast of state regulations and current trends as it applies to all services provided by Athelas Institute and implement changes after reviewing such changes with the Executive Staff.
  • Facilitates the LTSS internal transition plan.
  • Responsible for educating all department staff on waivers, services, and internal policies and procedures in relation to these areas.
  • Oversees the person-centered planning process and participant funding streams to include funding documents such as the DSAT.
  • Serves as a member of internal and external committees at the appointment of the CEO.
  • Build strong relationships with families, advocates, and stakeholders.
  • Attend and actively participate in all scheduled meetings.
  • Staff will be required to utilize agency electronic systems for communication, time and attendance, agency documentation, etc.
  • Provide direct supervision to Department Directors that includes knowledge growth opportunities, mentoring and coaching.
  • Responsible for budgeting each department to be aligned with funding.
  • Check and respond to emails daily to maintain proper communication.
  • Ensures that all activities are in keeping with the mission, values, philosophy and management principles of Athelas Institute, Inc.
  • Other duties as assigned by the CEO.
