About The Position

The City of Carlsbad, NM is seeking an experienced utilities professional to lead complex water, wastewater, environmental, and solid waste operations. The Deputy Director of Utilities will support major infrastructure investments and assist the Director of Utilities in managing these essential services. The ideal candidate will be a well-rounded utilities professional with strong operational knowledge, excellent communication skills, and adaptability in municipal budgeting, operations, and personnel management. Requirements

High school diploma or GED
Minimum of seven years of increasingly responsible utility program management experience
Minimum of three years of experience in water/wastewater operations supervision or management
Water Operator IV and Wastewater Operator IV New Mexico certification (candidates expected to obtain within two years of hire)
Valid New Mexico driver’s license
Residency within the City required within six months of hire

Nice To Haves

Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field (may substitute for a portion of required non-supervisory experience)
Knowledge of municipal water and wastewater infrastructure and applicable state and federal regulations
Experience with budgeting, program development, employee supervision, and training
Knowledge of the oil and gas industry
