About The Position

Responsible for the initiation, prosecution, and defense of civil litigation on behalf of Jackson County, including the defense of civil claims brought against Jackson County, Merit Commission cases, Board of Equalization hearings, State Tax Commission hearings, civil commitments in probate court, and other legal matters. Provides guidance, legal advice, and assistance to County departments, directors, and staff regarding legal issues, human resources issues, personnel rules, and employment law.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctorate from an accredited college or university of law.
  • Three to Five years of civil litigation experience.
  • Must be a member of the Missouri Bar Association or ability to waive in.
  • Must submit to and pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen.

Responsibilities

  • Initiation, prosecution, and defense of civil litigation on behalf of Jackson County.
  • Defense of civil claims brought against Jackson County.
  • Handling Merit Commission cases.
  • Representing in Board of Equalization hearings.
  • Representing in State Tax Commission hearings.
  • Handling civil commitments in probate court.
  • Managing other legal matters.
  • Providing guidance, legal advice, and assistance to County departments, directors, and staff regarding legal issues, human resources issues, personnel rules, and employment law.
