About The Position

The Commissioner of Revenue for King and Queen County, Virginia is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Deputy Commissioner. The Deputy Commissioner performs responsible skilled clerical, administrative, and technical work assisting with the day-to-day operation of the Commissioner of Revenue’s Office. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Commissioner of Revenue. These tasks include assisting taxpayers with personal property, business licenses, real estate, and reviewing state income tax returns. This position works directly with the public in the office in-person and on the phone. The Deputy will utilize proper security measures concerning confidential information as directed by the Commissioner.

Requirements

  • General knowledge of the principles underlying the laws, ordinances and regulations governing the operations of the Commissioner of Revenue’s Office.
  • Some knowledge of business and office practices.
  • Ability to prepare appropriate statements and reports.
  • Ability to operate standard office, word processing, and data entry equipment.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with county citizens and associates.
  • Customer service experience.
  • Communication skills.
  • Punctuality.
  • Ability to organize work and related tasks.
  • Willingness to participate in ongoing training as required by the Code of Virginia and the Commissioner of Revenue.
  • Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and some prior experience in a related field.
  • Must have experience in customer service and the use of a computer and related software.
  • Participate in educational classes regarding state code.
  • Background Check and Drug Test.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of the Bright Software system and Excel is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assessment of various taxes (personal property, real estate taxes, and business licenses).
  • Maintaining personal property records.
  • Maintaining DMV records once downloaded.
  • Assist taxpayers with filing of paperwork for Elderly and Disabled Tax Credit.
  • Maintaining all real estate records for the purposes of assessment and taxation.
  • Reviews and handles state income tax returns and estimated payments.
  • Answers calls from citizens; responds to questions, provides information, and handle citizen concerns.
  • Research returned mail and forward to the correct address.
  • Updates personal property and real estate addresses.
  • Performs general office assistance tasks.
  • Receives and processes incoming and outgoing mail.
  • Performs other related tasks and duties as assigned by the Commissioner of the Revenue.
