About The Position

The Indiana Department of Insurance (IDOI) protects Hoosiers by assisting them with insurance products, claims, and policy understanding. The department also monitors the financial solvency of insurance companies domiciled in Indiana to ensure policy promises are honored. IDOI staff are committed to providing exceptional customer service and maintaining a fair and objective viewpoint. This role oversees the Company Compliance Division, which includes the Accident & Health, Property & Casualty, Long-Term Care, Indiana State Health Insurance Assistance Program, and Actuarial Services teams. The position monitors Affordable Care Act (ACA) regulations, oversees the ACA filing season, and reviews state and federal legislation impacting Indiana insurance markets. It also identifies and monitors market issues, represents Indiana in NAIC committees, and assists in establishing the Indiana state-based exchange. The role involves evaluating organizational effectiveness, developing plans and policies, supervising personnel, communicating with media, and coordinating with other government officials.

Nice To Haves

  • A degree from an accredited college or university is not required but is highly preferred
  • Experience in reviewing and implementing the Affordable Care Act also is highly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the Company Compliance Division, which includes the Accident & Health, Property & Casualty, Long-Term Care, Indiana State Health Insurance Assistance Program, and Actuarial Services teams
  • Monitor all regulations, rules, and guidance regarding the Affordable Care Act (ACA)
  • Oversee the ACA filing season in Indiana, including but not limited to, rate and form filings, key filing dates
  • Review state and federal legislation that may impact Indiana insurance markets
  • Identify and monitor issues or trends that may impact Indiana insurance markets
  • Keep leadership apprised of issues or trends that may impact Indiana insurance markets
  • Oversee and complete ad hoc projects as assigned by leadership
  • Participate and represent Indiana in NAIC committees, task forces, and working groups
  • Travel to NAIC meetings or conferences
  • Assist the state-based exchange Executive Director in establishing the Indiana state-based exchange
  • Reviews and evaluates organizational effectiveness, goal determination, and strategic planning and makes recommendations for improvement
  • Develops and coordinates plans and policies, resources, and mission as well as goals, vision and expectations of agency or program
  • Supervises subordinate personnel including hiring, determining workload, and delegating assignments, training, monitoring, and evaluating performance, and initiating corrective or disciplinary action
  • Communicates with news and other media and responds to media questions or requests in an appropriate public relations manner
  • Coordinates with other government officials on planning issues (i.e. federal and/or state agency directors, etc.)
  • Sets expectations, measures progress, provides ongoing feedback, and evaluates the performance of employees. Ensures work adheres to quality standards, deadlines, and proper procedures.
