About The Position

Frederick County Clerk of the Circuit Court is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Deputy Clerk. Requirements

  • 1+ years in a professional environment, ideally within a Clerk's office or related field; a combination of relevant education and professional coursework.
  • Education or experience equivalent to a high school diploma or GED.
  • Strong understanding of Virginia laws, court procedures, and the criminal justice system.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and other relevant software, with the ability to learn new systems quickly.
  • Motivated, adaptable, and able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Nice To Haves

  • US Department of State Passport Agency certification is highly desirable and/or the ability to obtain the certification once employed
  • Complete Virginia Supreme Court courses annually.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for public inquiries, providing excellent customer service in person and over the phone.
  • Manage civil and criminal filings, ensuring accuracy and compliance with state guidelines.
  • Process land records, concealed handgun permits, marriage licenses, and passport applications.
  • Conduct daily correspondence with other agencies, attorneys, and the public to facilitate court operations.
  • Prepare and process legal documents.
  • Set and review court dockets to ensure efficient case flow and adherence to mandatory timelines.
