About The Position

The Office of the Clerk of Superior Court, Pitt County, is seeking a qualified individual to serve in the position of Deputy Clerk in the legal system of North Carolina in the Estates / Special Proceedings Division. Employee will focus on assisting Estates families and Special Proceeding customers by phone or at the front counter.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 18 years of age.
  • Ability to read and understand the statutes and procedures for estate administration and record keeping.
  • Understanding of basic accounting.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to make timely decisions with accuracy.
  • Knowledge of NC general statutes.
  • Knowledge of policies and procedures related to the local judicial district.
  • Knowledge of civil proceedings and the Civil Case Processing System (VCAP).
  • Knowledge of juvenile proceedings.
  • Knowledge of Juvenile Case Tracking/Scheduling System (JWISE).
  • Knowledge of eWarrants.
  • Knowledge of eCourts.
  • Knowledge of Odyssey Enterprise Justice.
  • Knowledge of general office and clerical procedures.
  • Skills in basic math.
  • Skills in active listening.
  • Skills in managing a high volume of public interaction.
  • Skills in effectively communicating both verbally and in writing.
  • Skills in fast, accurate data entry.

Responsibilities

  • Process decedent and guardianship estates according to North Carolina statutes.
  • Process applications for probate of wills and codicils.
  • Appoint personal representatives for decedent estates, guardianships, trustees, collectors, and allowances.
  • Prepare letters of testamentary, administration, and guardianship.
  • Administer oaths and set bonds for administrators and guardians.
  • Review annual and final accountings for accuracy.
  • Issue Notices and Orders to personal representatives and legal counsel.
  • Assist Estates families and Special Proceeding customers by phone or at the front counter.
  • Explain rules, policies, and procedures tactfully and diplomatically.
  • Read and comprehend legal documents.
  • Interact diplomatically with a diverse group of people.
