About The Position

The Deputy Chief Probation Officer position involves appraising training, education, experience, interest, and personal fitness for the role. The Human Resources Division may conduct an application materials appraisal if there are insufficient candidates for an oral exam. Applicants must achieve a minimum score of 70% in each examination phase. This role requires adherence to specific Peace Officer Standards and the ability to complete required training, including firearm training. Appointees will undergo fingerprinting and an extensive background investigation. A valid California Class C driver's license is required at the time of appointment. Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's or Master's Degree in criminology, criminal justice, sociology, psychology, public administration, business administration or a related field.
  • Eight (8) years full-time experience in probation or parole work.
  • Three (3) years in a management capacity.
  • One (1) year of experience at a Probation Division Director level or equivalent.
  • Submission of all applicable diploma(s), transcripts, licenses and/or certificates with the application.
  • Meeting minimum Peace Officer Standards as defined in the California Penal Code, Section 830.5, and the California Government Code, Sections 1029 and 1031.
  • Ability to complete the training required under the Standards of Training for Corrections, including firearm training.
  • Possession of a California Class C driver's license at the time of appointment.
  • Reputation for honesty and trustworthiness.
  • No felony conviction (misdemeanor and/or traffic offense convictions will be assessed on a case-by-case basis).
