About The Position

Reporting to the Chief Information Officer (CIO) of Howard University Hospital, you will provide strategic and operational leadership for the hospital’s Information Technology Services. As Deputy Chief Information Officer, you will act as the primary IT leader in the CIO’s absence — ensuring continuity of operations, service delivery, human resources, finance, and budget management. You will build a collaborative, high-performing team that advances HUH’s mission of excellence in patient care, education, and research through innovative, secure technology.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Information Technology, Healthcare Administration, or a related field.
  • 6+ years of experience in strategic IT leadership.
  • Demonstrated leadership in a complex IT environment.
  • Strong analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Deep understanding of IT processes and service management.
  • Experience managing budgets and expenditures.
  • Proven ability to motivate and develop staff and build effective teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Strategic IT leadership experience in a hospital or healthcare environment.
  • Experience in healthcare IT and knowledge of hospital operations.
  • Familiarity with healthcare regulations and compliance frameworks.

Responsibilities

  • Translate hospital IT strategic goals into actionable operational plans.
  • Oversee IT operations, financial management, human resources, contract administration, project management, and service management.
  • Ensure IT policies, procedures, and controls meet regulatory, privacy, and security requirements.
  • Direct the administration of the IT office with a focus on customer service and efficient project and service delivery.
  • Set departmental goals, performance standards, and accountability measures; evaluate staff and support professional development.
  • Implement IT service delivery frameworks and best practices, including ITIL and healthcare-specific standards.
  • Develop and manage SLAs and OLAs to strengthen IT support for hospital operations.
  • Lead IT project intake, prioritization, and governance in support of clinical and operational excellence.
  • Ensure transparency in IT budgeting and spending; benchmark costs and performance.
  • Oversee workforce planning and personnel actions, including recruitment, retention, and talent management.
  • Build strong relationships across Human Resources, Finance, Compliance, and Patient Safety.
