About The Position

The New York City Law Department is seeking admitted attorneys for the position of Deputy Chief of the Executive Litigation & Policy Group (ELPG), part of the Executive Division. The Deputy Chief will work closely with the ELPG Chief and senior leadership to manage a team of attorneys handling both counseling and litigation for matters impacting the City of New York's revenue and programs. This includes complex and high-impact litigation in administrative, constitutional, and municipal law, as well as counseling on federal grants and emerging regulatory/enforcement areas. Responsibilities include preparing briefing materials, presentations, reports, and drafting guidance documents. The Deputy Chief will also oversee litigation strategy, coordinate with various government agencies and stakeholders, manage the development of legal and policy positions in response to federal actions, and assist with strategic planning, personnel management, attorney development, and operational oversight.

Requirements

  • At least 10 years of legal experience following graduation from an ABA accredited law school.
  • Admitted to the practice of law in New York State.
  • Admitted or eligible for immediate admission to the SDNY and EDNY.
  • Exceptional legal writing, analytical, and advocacy skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex legal positions effectively to various stakeholders in both litigation and advisory contexts.
  • History of successful supervision and management of attorneys and legal support professionals.

Nice To Haves

  • Substantial experience with complex or high-stakes litigation – particularly affirmative litigation.
  • Deep familiarity with municipal law.
