Deployment Strategist

Valon TechNew York, NY
$140,000 - $240,000Hybrid

About The Position

Valon is building the AI-native operating system for regulated finance, starting with mortgage servicing. We're a Series C company backed by a16z, transforming industries that others have written off as too complex to innovate. Rather than build on top of broken legacy systems, we took a different approach: we built and operate our own mortgage servicing business managing $110+ billion in loans. This wasn't the end goal, it was how we deeply understood the complexity needed to build software that actually works in regulated industries. The results speak for themselves. We've transformed mortgage servicing from a 0% margin business into 60%+ margins while dramatically improving customer experience. Major enterprise contracts are now deploying across the industry. ValonOS is our unified platform that makes every process structured and programmable and it is perfectly positioned for the AI era. When everything flows through one system with rich data, AI agents don't just automate tasks, they continuously improve entire operations. Mortgage servicing is just the beginning of our vision to transform regulated industries and beyond. Deployment Strategists own live enterprise deployments of ValonOS: part operator, part product strategist, part data investigator, and part executive translator. You diagnose how a regulated servicing operation works, decide what needs to change, configure the solution, and stay accountable until client operators are live and the business outcome is measurable. The job is not to make recommendations from the outside. The job is to figure out what is true, make the right call under ambiguity, and drive the work until the outcome exists in the real world.

Requirements

  • A track record of structured problem solving under pressure: operating roles, strategy consulting, banking, investing, Chief of Staff roles, founding experience, product or business operations, high-stakes customer work, or other environments where you had to figure things out quickly.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative horsepower. You can decompose ambiguous problems and find the levers that matter.
  • Practical comfort with technical tools. You do not need to be a professional engineer, but you should be the kind of person who will use SQL, Python, AI tools, or whatever else is needed to answer the question yourself instead of waiting for someone else to unblock you.
  • Demonstrated AI fluency - not "I've used ChatGPT," but evidence that you have taught yourself to work with coding agents, build small tools, or restructure your own workflows around AI.
  • Clear, calibrated communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ownership maturity: you can move quickly, make decisions with incomplete information, and stay accountable when the answer changes.
  • Curiosity, horsepower, and the ability to learn a regulated system quickly are required.

Nice To Haves

  • Background in financial services, healthcare, government, infrastructure, or another regulated, operationally intense industry.
  • Prior exposure to enterprise software implementation, workflow design, migration projects, or operating teams at scale.
  • Mortgage servicing knowledge is not required.

Responsibilities

  • Maps a client's current operation, identifies the gaps to ValonOS, sequences the roadmap, and gets sign-off from leaders who have been doing this for 25 years.
  • Spends Tuesday querying the data warehouse to figure out whether a payoff event has actually occurred across our system, the servicer's ops, and a capital partner's books - and then drives a decision the business is willing to bet on.
  • Translates between groups that do not naturally talk to each other: engineering, the client's servicing operations team, capital partners, compliance, product, and executives.
  • Sits onsite watching foreclosure, escrow, loss mitigation, or cash operations specialists work, then comes back and helps rebuild the workflow.
  • Configures and deploys the solution, watches client operators actually use it, and stays accountable for whether the workflow produces the measurable business outcome.
  • Briefs everyone else. The DS does not get briefed. The work starts with raw data, raw code, and raw conversations, and ends in a decision the business commits to.
  • Own a workstream within an active deployment end-to-end: a domain, product surface, client function, or operational workflow. You are the DRI for outcomes and the bridge to engineering, product, and client leadership.
  • Lead a pod of 3-5 Deployment Strategists across a deployment or set of deployments. You own broader delivery, coach ICs through ambiguous problems, raise the quality bar, and partner directly with senior client leaders and our R&D org.
  • Own a major deployment domain or cross-functional outcome with limited scaffolding. You drive strategy, sequence tradeoffs, unblock teams, and become a trusted operator for senior client and Valon leaders.

Benefits

  • competitive salary range of $140K-$240K with a meaningful stake in the company via equity, and 401k plan.
  • comprehensive medical, dental, & vision benefits
  • pre-tax deductions for public transportation, rideshare services, and parking expenses
  • learning & development opportunities including regular review cycles that feature 360 degree feedback
  • quarterly budgets for team and company outings.
  • flexible paid time off, sick days, and 11 company holidays
