About The Position

The Departmental Technician 7-10 position serves as a technical resource for the Business Taxes Unit and will provide a full range of technical assistance for the area, including but not limited to Business Registration, Corporate Income Tax, Flow-Through Entity Tax, Michigan Business Tax, Partnership Audit Adjustment, and Michigan Treasury Online. The Business Taxes Unit is comprised of motivated, resourceful, and hard-working individuals. Requirements

  • Education typically acquired through completion of high school.
  • Departmental Technician 7: One year of experience performing administrative support activities equivalent to the 7-level in state service.
  • Departmental Technician 8: One year of experience performing administrative support activities equivalent to the 8-level in state service.
  • OR One year of experience as a technician or paraprofessional equivalent to the entry level in state service.
  • Departmental Technician E9: One year of experience as a supervisor of administrative support activities equivalent to the 9-level in state service.
  • OR One year of experience performing administrative support activities equivalent to the 9-level in state service.
  • OR Two years of experience as a technician or paraprofessional, including one year of experience equivalent to the intermediate level in state service.
  • Departmental Technician 10: Two years of experience as a supervisor of administrative support activities equivalent to the 9-level in state service.
  • OR Two years of experience performing administrative support activities equivalent to the 9-level in state service.
  • OR Three years of experience as a technician or paraprofessional, including one year of experience equivalent to the experienced level in state service.
  • Work must be performed in the state of Michigan.
  • If you currently reside outside of the State of Michigan, you must commute to Michigan to perform the responsibilities and duties of this position at your official work location.
  • The selected candidate must have a secure, safe and appropriate designated workspace that allows privacy and prevents distractions while performing the duties of this position, as well as secure and sufficient internet access of commercial cable or wireless broadband with minimum speeds of 25 Mbps download and 5 Mbps upload.
  • This position has a FTINPRINT sub-class code. The sub-class code indicates the position has access to Federal Tax Information (FTI) and requires passing of a fingerprint-based background check per IRS Publication 1075.

Responsibilities

  • Documentation of processes and procedures
  • Recommendation of efficiency improvements relating to standard methods of operations including training
  • Collaboration with other Treasury departments/divisions
  • Performance of complex queries
  • Lead and/or participate in special projects
  • Assist supervisors and front-line staff with resolution of complex tax issues
