About The Position

The Michigan Department of Corrections is seeking to fill three vacancies for a Departmental Technician (Trainee) position. This role involves monitoring Global Positioning System (GPS) and Curfew monitored offenders, tracking the location, movement, and curfews of approximately 3,500 parolees and probationers statewide. Technicians will respond to offender violations and equipment problems, take statements from parolees and probationers via telephone, provide instructions for equipment troubleshooting, and distinguish between equipment malfunctions and offender violation alarms. Technicians must be adaptable to transitory/temporary equipment while maintaining expertise in primary equipment and software. This position will be assigned to a 2nd (2:30 PM - 11:00 PM) or 3rd (10:30 PM - 7:00 AM) shift, with voluntary and mandatory overtime required as needed. Upon hire, the selected candidate will work in the office for the initial 2 weeks, after which they will be eligible for 100% remote work, subject to operational needs. New hires will complete Non-Custody New Employee Training (NCNET), which may include in-person and online components.
