About The Position

This position functions as a liaison with the prisoner population, as well as outside law enforcement agencies, for the Warden. The role includes being the Facility Coordinator for the Warden's Forum and a member of the Security Classification Committee, which involves direct participation in the prisoner disciplinary process. The specialist interviews prisoners on policy and procedure issues, responds to prisoner inquiries, and handles questions and concerns received in the Warden's Office. Responsibilities also include making rounds inside the secure perimeter of the Level IV "close" facility, escorting staff for monthly and annual inspections and tours, and reviewing Visiting Applications on behalf of the Warden. The position is responsible for the creation, review, and updating of facility Operating Procedures, preparing all Warden's Office Memorandums, and updating Prisoner Rules as needed. Additionally, the role prepares requests to restrict and restore visiting privileges to the Deputy Director, functions as the Media Liaison, and serves as the Self-Audit/Performance-Audit Coordinator. Duties 1, 2, 3, and 4 require direct contact with prisoners for more than 50% of the work time.

Requirements

  • Possession of a bachelor's degree in any major.
  • Four years of professional experience, including two years equivalent to the experienced (P11) level or one year equivalent to the advanced (12) level.
  • All required documents must be attached and submitted at the time of application.
  • Applications must be submitted through NEOGOV.
  • Transcripts must be official college transcripts indicating the specific type of degree earned and the conferred/graduation date.
  • Applicants who have been convicted of a misdemeanor or felony are ineligible for employment with the Department of Corrections until satisfactory completion of any sentence imposed, including parole or probation.
  • Must report any possible conflict of interest.

Nice To Haves

  • Equivalent combinations of nonprofessional experience, identified by the appointing authority and approved by Civil Service that are represented by subclass codes, will be accepted for classified, professional experience equivalent to the P11-level and above.
  • The nonprofessional experience must be related to departmental programs and services that provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Certain positions may be assigned subclass codes and individuals appointed must possess the required specialized experience.
