About The Position

The Chattanooga State Community College TCAT Department Head for Industrial Processes provides administrative leadership, strategic planning, and operational oversight for all Industrial Processes programs, including Welding, Residential and Commercial Electricity, Industrial Automation and Robotics, Machine Tool, Building Construction, and HVAC/R. The Department Head supervises full‑time and adjunct faculty; manages curriculum, accreditation compliance, scheduling, budgets, and industry engagement; and supports student achievement through high‑quality instruction and workforce‑aligned programming. Programs are delivered at four locations: Chattanooga Campus, Construction Career Center, Marion, and Rhea Counties. Chattanooga Campus offers courses both day and evening.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant industrial processes experience.
  • Technical Diploma
  • Experience teaching or supervising technical programs.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Expertise in industrial fields.
  • Ability to lead in a manner that reflects the values of the College.
  • Proficiency in administrative software systems.
  • Strong communication and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to think strategically, to act with a sense of urgency, to work collaboratively, and to make decisions, both collaboratively and independently.
  • Ability to lead complex projects.

Nice To Haves

  • Supervisory or management experience.
  • Associate's degree or higher
  • Experience with accreditation, curriculum development, and grants.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure instructional programs are regularly assessed for learning outcomes.
  • Cultivate and manage an active list of adjunct instructors.
  • Support faculty with assessment design and pedagogical refinement.
  • Teach courses within the department as needed.
  • Coordinate selection, use, and maintenance of equipment and facilities.
  • Oversee curriculum development and alignment with accreditation standards.
  • Encourage evidence‑based instructional practices.
  • Support innovation aligned with labor market needs.
  • Work with faculty on curriculum changes.
  • Work with faculty to prepare for accreditation reviews and program evaluations.
  • Build and maintain employer relationships.
  • Support program advisory board meetings at least once annually.
  • Represent the College and TCAT division at community, state, and national meetings and events.
  • Establish and implement operational policies and long‑range goals.
  • Prepare and administer departmental budgets.
  • Oversee grant management, reporting, and compliance.
  • Utilize administrative and instructional software systems.
  • Participate in student recruitment and admission decisions and activities.
  • Support placement of students in work‑based learning (WBL) experiences.
  • Review and respond to various reports in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with student services to support students.
  • Work collaboratively with student services teams to connect learners with academic, advising, and support resources.
  • Direct, coordinate, and evaluate personnel within the Industrial Processes division.
  • Recruit, hire, train, and supervise departmental employees; conduct performance evaluations.
  • Support the College’s mission and core values.
