About The Position

The Department Director for Med Surg assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates the delivery of patient care. The director provides direction for the development and evaluation of staff on the Nursing Unit and maintains the unit’s operational aspects in collaboration with other hospital and community professionals. The role works collaboratively with all departments and carries out other functions as needed. It supports Bluffton Community Nursing’s Mission and Vision through the hospital’s professional practice model (Shared Governance), educational efforts, and research efforts.

The position is part of South of Broad Healthcare’s effort to expand access to high-quality, community-based healthcare in southern Beaufort County and the surrounding Lowcountry. The role is associated with Bluffton Community Hospital, a planned 28-bed, full-service hospital scheduled for completion in late 2026, with patient care anticipated to begin in early 2027.

Requirements

• Ability to obtain a South Carolina license; a current South Carolina license is required.
• BLS certification is required.
• 2–5 years of clinical experience, including experience as an assistant manager or charge nurse.
• Demonstrated leadership attributes.
• Specific knowledge to render care over the life continuum.

Nice To Haves

• Baccalaureate or Master's Degree preferred.
