About The Position

The Department Chair will serve as an educational leader, focusing on the needs of digital learners and implementing rigorous instructional strategies. This role requires expertise in STEM curriculum and the ability to lead a team of teachers in designing STEM academies. The Chair will also be responsible for evaluating techniques, recommending budget items, assessing personnel needs, and supporting teachers in the implementation of the instructional program.

Requirements

  • New York State SAS/SBL & Teacher certification in a science, technology, or math
  • 5-7 years building level administrative experience

Responsibilities

  • Serves as an educational leader.
  • Prepares teachers to evaluate their techniques and procedures and to investigate new approaches.
  • Recommends budget items to achieve the objectives of the curriculum.
  • Assesses the personnel needs of the department and makes recommendations to the principal.
  • Supports and assists teachers in the implementation of the instructional program.
  • Serves as a STEM curriculum expert.
  • Conducts scheduled department meetings on a regular basis.
  • Works collaboratively with MVCSD administration.
  • Evaluates and oversees supplies, textbooks and equipment.
  • Assists the principals in establishing priorities on budget items.
  • Provides input to administration on the creation of the master schedule.
  • Collaborates with administration in establishing and implementing benchmark and formative assessment schedules.
  • Maintains resource materials for department reference.
  • Attends relevant school, district, and professional meetings when available and necessary.
