About The Position

The Engineering & Technology Department within the Robert F. Cervenka School of Engineering, College of Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Management invites qualified candidates to apply for our Department Assistant position. This is a Full Time; Regular; 100% position. The department has approximately 40 full-time faculty and staff and provides courses for its well-established and accredited undergraduate programs in Computer & Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering (B.S. and M.S.), Mechanical Engineering, Plastics Engineering, Engineering Technology, and Packaging, plus other programs throughout the University. UW-Stout’s Engineering and Technology Department is committed to creating an inclusive campus community.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent judgment, including sensitivity to personal and confidential information
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office Suite, specifically, Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Basic computer skills and functional knowledge of computer hardware/accessories and the internet
  • Good work habits, such as attendance, punctuality, accountability, thoroughness, and resourcefulness
  • Work independently and as part of a team environment and on collaborative efforts

Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative assistance to the department chair, department members and students.
  • Serve as the departments’ financial manager.
  • Purchase supplies and equipment.
  • Act as office manager/lead worker.
  • Manage departmental offices and processes.
  • Assist in curriculum management and entry.
  • Assist with recruitments and hiring paperwork.
  • Assist with instructor evaluations by students.
  • General computer/technical support for office functions.
  • Other related duties.
  • Coordinates projects and program components including, scheduling and logistics, unit workflow, and identifies areas for process improvements.
  • Identifies, troubleshoots, and resolves problems regarding technical systems and programs related to department operations.
  • Serves as a primary point of contact for the department.
  • Monitors the department, unit or program budget and expenses, and may assist in the development of program budget and projections.
  • Develops, implements, and maintains methods and organizational systems directed at the maintenance of electronic/physical records related to department operations according to established policies and procedures.
  • May provide operational guidance and training on day-to-day activities of student workers and program staff.
