Department Assistant - Engineering and Technology
About The Position
The Engineering & Technology Department within the Robert F. Cervenka School of Engineering, College of Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Management invites qualified candidates to apply for our Department Assistant position. This is a full-time, regular position at 100% employment. The department has approximately 40 full-time faculty and staff and provides courses for undergraduate programs in Computer & Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering (B.S. and M.S.), Mechanical Engineering, Plastics Engineering, Engineering Technology, and Packaging, plus other programs throughout the University. UW-Stout’s Engineering and Technology Department is committed to creating an inclusive campus community.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent judgment, including sensitivity to personal and confidential information
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
- Experience working with Microsoft Office Suite, specifically, Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Basic computer skills and functional knowledge of computer hardware/accessories and the internet
- Good work habits, such as attendance, punctuality, accountability, thoroughness, and resourcefulness
- Work independently and as part of a team environment and on collaborative efforts

Responsibilities
- Provide administrative assistance to the department chair, department members and students.
- Serve as the department’s financial manager.
- Purchase supplies and equipment.
- Act as office manager/lead worker.
- Manage departmental offices and processes.
- Assist in curriculum management and entry.
- Assist with recruitments and hiring paperwork.
- Assist with instructor evaluations by students.
- General computer/technical support for office functions.
- Other related duties.
- Coordinates projects and program components including, scheduling and logistics, unit workflow, and identifies areas for process improvements.
- Identifies, troubleshoots, and resolves problems regarding technical systems and programs related to department operations.
- Serves as a primary point of contact for the department.
- Monitors the department, unit or program budget and expenses, and may assist in the development of program budget and projections.
- Develops, implements, and maintains methods and organizational systems directed at the maintenance of electronic/physical records related to department operations according to established policies and procedures.
- May provide operational guidance and training on day-to-day activities of student workers and program staff.
