About The Position

Provides clinical services in general dentistry and gives health education information and specialty referrals to patients and the community. Helps supervise dental clinic operations and dental staff, and makes recommendations to the Dental Director for quality assurance projects. This is a part-time, temporary, on-call position reporting to the Dental Director.

Requirements

Active Dental License in good standing with the State of California.
DEA license.
Successful completion of an American Dental Association-accredited dental program (DDS or DMD).
Five or more years of clinical experience in general dentistry.
Experience with children under 6 years old and nitrous oxide.
Experience with difficult extractions and complicated medical histories.
Knowledge of standards of care and updates in general dentistry.
Knowledge of infection control and OSHA requirements.
Knowledge and practice of confidentiality and HIPAA law.
Knowledge of dental law and ethics.
Knowledge of clinic operations.

Responsibilities

Provide all phases of general dentistry at or above the standard of care.
Provide routine and emergency dentistry and refer patients to specialists when needed and available.
Provide dental education and awareness to patients and the community.
Maintain complete and accurate dental records with good documentation.
Ensure adequate follow-up and continuity of care.
Learn IHC policies, procedures, and coding.
Understand financial policies and funding source requirements, including FQHC, private insurance, sliding scale, Medi-Cal, EAPC, diabetes, and other grants.
Learn to manage difficult cases and difficult child patients because patients have limited access to specialty services.
Cross-train for front desk and assisting functions in case of support staff shortage.
Help the Dental Director carry out projects as directed.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Help supervise dental clinic operations and dental staff.
Recommend quality assurance projects to the Dental Director.
