About The Position
Wilson County Health Department in Wilson County, North Carolina, is seeking a Dentist on an independent contract basis to provide pediatric dental services to children in the county and improve access to quality dental care in schools and the community. The role supports preventive care and the Wilson Area School Health (WASH) dental program. The schedule is approximately 6–8 days per month, typically from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. during the school day. Work takes place at the Wilson County Health Department and designated Wilson County school sites. Workdays are coordinated throughout the month to offer scheduling flexibility, and daily patient volume may vary with student needs and program demand. Compensation is per diem, with rates based on specialty, qualifications, and years of experience. Employee benefits, insurance, and additional allowances are not included.
Requirements
- DDS or DMD degree from an accredited dental school.
- Active North Carolina dental license in good standing.
- Current DEA registration.
- Current professional malpractice insurance.
- Relevant dental experience.
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities
- Perform dental examinations, diagnose oral health conditions, and provide appropriate treatment.
- Deliver pediatric dental, preventive, and restorative services.
- Promote good oral hygiene habits through education and interaction with students and families.
- Identify patients who require specialty care and make appropriate referrals.
- Maintain accurate patient records and complete daily treatment documentation in Dentrix software.
- Collaborate with dental team members to provide efficient, high-quality patient care.
- Support community outreach and the Wilson Area School Health (WASH) dental program.
