About The Position

You will provide professional chairside dental procedures, consistent with community standard in a correctional setting to an adult in custody population. You will adhere to established time frames for procedures. This position is represented by American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME). This position may be eligible for Police & Fire (P&F) benefits through Public Employees Retirement System (PERS), as defined by statute.

Requirements

  • Current unencumbered Dentist's license issued by the Oregon Board of Dentistry at the time of appointment.
  • Limited and comprehensive oral evaluation
  • Treatment planning
  • Radiology
  • Preventative dentistry
  • Periodontal exam and treatment, excluding periodontal surgery
  • Restorative dentistry
  • Proficient performing extractions, simple and surgical, including flap procedures with suture placement
  • Fixed and removable prosthodontics
  • Prescribing of appropriate medication
  • Pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility.

Nice To Haves

  • No previous discipline with the Oregon Board of Dentistry, or with Boards of any other states.
  • Previous service within an oral and maxillofacial internship program and/or extensive experience performing oral surgery procedures (excluding complicated third molar impactions)
  • Previous experience working as a dentist in corrections
  • Excellent communication skills with patients and staff
  • Solid work ethic, with ability to manage caseloads independently
