You will adhere to established time frames for procedures. This position is represented by American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME). This position may be eligible for Police & Fire (P&F) benefits through Public Employees Retirement System (PERS), as defined by statute.

Requirements

  • Current unencumbered Dentist's license issued by the Oregon Board of Dentistry at the time of appointment.
  • No previous discipline with the Oregon Board of Dentistry, or with Boards of any other states.
  • Pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility.
  • Confirm authorization to work in the United States.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous service within an oral and maxillofacial internship program and/or extensive experience performing oral surgery procedures (excluding complicated third molar impactions).
  • Previous experience working as a dentist in corrections.
  • Excellent communication skills with patients and staff.
  • Solid work ethic, with ability to manage caseloads independently.

Responsibilities

  • Provide professional chairside dental procedures, consistent with community standard in a correctional setting to an adult in custody population.
  • Adhere to established time frames for procedures.
  • Perform limited and comprehensive oral evaluation.
  • Perform treatment planning.
  • Perform radiology.
  • Perform preventative dentistry.
  • Perform Periodontal exam and treatment, excluding periodontal surgery.
  • Perform restorative dentistry.
  • Perform extractions, simple and surgical, including flap procedures with suture placement.
  • Perform fixed and removable prosthodontics.
  • Prescribe appropriate medication.
