About The Position

The Dental Department Manager works under the general supervision of the Dental Director. The Dental Manager oversees dental staffing activities, ensuring compliance and adherence to policies, procedures, standards of care, and regulatory compliance in the clinical setting. Contributes to a creative work climate that encourages positive morale, motivation, and commitment by frequent contact with the dental staff members.

Requirements

  • Must be licensed in the State of Louisiana as Expanded Duty Dental Assistant or X-ray certification.
  • Minimum of five years of experience.
  • BLS (American Heart Association).
  • Five years of experience in a dental office.
  • Experience with electronic health records required, preferably NextGen or similar EHS.
  • Strong team-building conflict resolution and communication skills.
  • Must be available to work after hours if needed.

Nice To Haves

  • At least three years of supervisory experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees dental department staffing, training, adherence to policies, procedures, standards of care, and regulatory compliance.
  • Responsible for dental department staff orientation that includes completing orientation checklist and competencies.
  • Assist with (non-clinical) new hire orientation of dental providers (EDR and Sterilization related training).
  • Manages dental staff schedules for optimal patient flow and provider support.
  • Ensures dental department compliance to regulatory standards including Joint Commission. Assist Dental director in monitoring and reviewing regulatory changes as appropriate and ensures required changes are implemented.
  • Ensures dental staff is trained in processes for maintaining adequate dental inventory, reporting equipment and instrument related problems and work orders for all clinic locations.
  • Communicates as necessary with dental director, clinic managers and clinical service director on personnel issues requiring intervention. Documentation to formulate DAR’s when necessary.
  • Coordinate hiring dental staff with dental director, review resumes for dental assistants and manages all structured observation for working interviews and assists with hiring decisions.
  • Attend EDR EHR related training sessions, facilitate implementation of changes and assist with ongoing training with all Dental Staff, including doctors and hygienists.
  • Attend /Participate in all meetings and activities related to improving quality of care and improving encounters, compliance, and QI meetings.
  • Maintain dental operational data for accurate reporting to the Dental Director and/or Executive Team that includes constantly reviewing goals and measures and assisting with composing monthly encounters reports.
  • Maintain skills and knowledge necessary to assist the dentist during dental treatment procedures as necessary and required.
  • Oversee any School based Sealant Program activities and events, with planning, scheduling, and stocking / inventory related activities, including ordering and logistics of transportation and of appropriate equipment and supplies.
  • Confer with the Dental Director, onsite dentist, and management to resolve dental department concerns.
  • Ensures all quality logs including sterilization spore testing is completed as required when clinics are open or closed.
  • Ensures dental policies and procedures manual is updated with current standards of care and regulatory requirements.
  • Performs other related duties as required or necessary.
