Dental Hygienist - Part-time OR Full-time

About The Position

The Dental Hygienist performs dental hygiene procedures within the scope of state licensure under the direction of a dentist and provides patient education. The role delivers direct patient care and supports prevention and control of oral health diseases, including caries and periodontal disease. The position may be full-time at 40 hours per week or part-time with a flexible schedule. It is non-exempt and has an OSHA risk classification of High.

Requirements

Graduate from an accredited college or university with a degree in Dental Hygiene.
Possess a current State of Alaska Dental Hygiene License.
Possess a State of Alaska Anesthesia License.
Have two years of prior experience in a dental clinic.

Responsibilities

Provide direct patient care, including prophylaxis, fluoride treatment, sealants, periodontal examinations, scaling and root planing, application of desensitizing medication, oral cancer examinations, local anesthesia and/or nitrous oxide, and other procedures as directed by a dentist.
Provide treatment and patient education aimed at controlling and preventing oral health diseases such as caries and periodontal disease.
Take and record vital signs before treatment when necessary.
Record diagnoses, procedural codes, treatment notes, and treatment plans in patient charts.
Provide patients with necessary education, including pre- and post-operative instructions.
Sterilize and maintain instruments and supplies according to clinic policy.
Prepare the operatory appropriately for each patient.
Assist dental providers as needed, including seating patients, anesthetizing, administering nitrous oxide, answering phones, making appointments, and helping maintain office flow without direction.
Represent PCHS as a liaison by providing community oral health education and services off site at schools, senior centers, and organizations as needed.
