About The Position

The Dental Hygienist provides health care functions in accordance with the principles and practices of dental hygiene. The role evaluates patients’ oral health and hygiene status and performs necessary X-rays, panelipse, periodontal evaluations, and prophylaxis procedures. The hygienist is responsible for patients’ care and safety during treatment, provides oral hygiene instruction to patients or caretakers, and maintains follow-up. The position follows policy and procedure guidelines for safe sterilization and cleaning of dental operatories and assists other dental team members with patient care as needed.

Requirements

• Graduate of an ADA-accredited school of dental hygiene.
• Licensed to practice dental hygiene in Virginia.
• AHA BLS-HCP certification required.
• Ability to complete continuing education requirements in dentistry and care of special populations.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate patients’ oral health and hygiene status.
• Perform necessary X-rays, panelipse, periodontal evaluations, and prophylaxis procedures.
• Maintain responsibility for patients’ care and safety during treatment.
• Provide oral hygiene instruction to patients or caretakers and maintain follow-up.
• Follow policy and procedure guidelines for safe sterilization and cleaning of dental operatories.
• Assist other dental team members with delivery of patient care as needed.
