About The Position

Under general supervision, responsible for assisting dentist in providing oral health care to patients by cleaning, scaling and polishing teeth. Evaluates overall oral health, examining for signs of periodontal disease, documents dental history and takes and processes X-rays to provide dentist with information for more complete diagnosis and subsequent treatment if needed. Follows through with oral hygiene procedures in accordance with treatment plans as prescribed by an attending Dentist. Advises and instructs patients on proper dental care and diet for good dental health. May assist with or institute emergency measures for sudden adverse developments during treatment of patients as appropriate. Performs all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Excellent communication and team-work skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Proficiency in computer usage, including electronic dental records.
  • Ability to work independently with strong attention to accuracy and detail.
  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • High school diploma or GED and completion of an approved dental hygiene training program is required.
  • Must be licensed as a dental hygienist by the Texas State Board of dental Examiners (TSBDE).
  • This position may require the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UT San Antonio and its infrastructure per Texas EO-GA-48.
