About The Position

The Dental Hygienist provides a variety of health care functions in accordance with the principles and practices of Dental Hygiene. The Dental Hygienist evaluates patient's oral health and hygiene status, performs necessary x-rays, panelipse, periodontal evaluation, and prophylaxis procedures. Maintains responsibility for the care and safety of patients during treatment. Provides necessary oral hygiene instruction with patient or caretaker and maintains follow-up. Follows guidelines in policy and procedure manual for safe sterilization and cleaning of dental operatories. Assists other dental team members as needed with delivery of patient care. Under direct supervision of the dentist or general supervision, provides direction to patients, patient caretakers, and students. Communicates with physicians, patients, patient's families, and dental team regarding treatment and progress. In the hospital dental practice environment there is a high exposure to infectious disease patients, demanding or combative patients.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an ADA accredited school of dental hygiene.
  • Must be licensed to practice dental hygiene in the state of Virginia.
  • AHA BLS-HCP is required.
  • Attend appropriate continuing education courses in dentistry, management of special patients, etc.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
