About The Position

The Dental Hygienist is an important part of the patient care delivery team. This role is directly responsible for providing clinical treatment of patients as deemed appropriate by state guidelines as directed by the provider.

Requirements

  • A good understanding of dental and surgical techniques, chairside responsibilities, and health and safety protocols.
  • Ability to provide empathetic patient care even under stressful circumstances.
  • Consistent professionalism in appearance and attitude.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Superior interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Basic computer skills required and proficiency in MS products a plus.
  • High school diploma required.
  • Registered Dental Hygienist licensure per State Guidelines required.
  • BLS Certification required.
  • Fluent in English required.

Nice To Haves

  • Additional clinical certifications and/or expanded functions preferred.
  • 6 months of prior clinical experience preferred.
  • Spanish as second language is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Always ensure the care and welfare of patients in a friendly, helpful, and courteous manner.
  • Observe patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA guidelines.
  • Protect patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols.
  • Document and review patients medical and dental health history before providing treatment.
  • Accurately complete patient clinical records.
  • Educate patients by answering questions about procedures, treatment, and postoperative instructions.
  • Present and schedule treatment as needed.
  • Provide delivery of hygiene care to the patient for procedures outlined within licensure.
  • Take radiographs as ordered by the provider.
  • Ensure that clinical tools and equipment are properly cleaned and sterilized before procedures begin.
  • Set up and prepare for clinical procedures before the arrival of the patient.
  • Keep operatories stocked with necessary supplies.
  • Clean and disinfect all equipment and working surfaces to the required standards.
  • Keep the clinical areas and all equipment and instruments clean, tidy, and sterile as appropriate according to health and safety and infection control procedures and manufacturers’ instructions.
  • Use all equipment and machinery in accordance with manufacturers’ recommendations and ensure that they are maintained regularly and in good working order.
  • Be familiar and comply with all Health and Safety rules and guidance infection control and ensure safe disposal of sharps and clinical waste.
  • Other office tasks as assigned during clinical downtime.
