About The Position

Savannah Technical College is seeking a 12-month full-time faculty member for the Dental Hygiene program on the Savannah Campus. The individual will report to the Dean for Health Sciences and the Department Head of the Dental Hygiene Program. The Dental Hygiene Program Instructor will be responsible for instructing, managing, and supervising individuals and groups in classrooms, laboratories, and clinicals using appropriate teaching methods. This role involves preparing lesson plans, developing and coordinating curriculum, conducting assessments, evaluating instruction effectiveness, and maintaining accurate student records. The instructor will also coordinate cooperative work experience programs, assist with reporting, ensure compliance with accreditation standards, and participate in college committees and meetings. Additionally, the position requires developing program syllabi, goals, and objectives, maintaining a student-oriented approach, and assisting the department head and staff in maintaining an effective program. Efforts in recruitment, retention, and job placement, as well as ordering and maintaining equipment and supplies, are also part of the responsibilities. The instructor will advise and register health sciences students, attend meetings, maintain safe laboratory and clinical conditions, and stay current with trends in the field through professional development. The role also includes following college policies, communicating professionally with college employees, students, and visitors, and improving professionally by staying abreast of new developments and techniques in the field. Other duties as assigned are also expected.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Dental Hygiene or related field from a regionally accredited institution
  • Active Georgia Dental Hygienist license
  • Two years clinical practice experience
  • Current certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
  • Valid driver’s license and required insurability
  • Basic computer skills to include, but not limited to, Word; Excel; Power Point; and Outlook
  • Faculty must be credentialed to satisfy all appropriate accrediting bodies for the course assigned

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution
  • Two years clinical teaching experience
  • Background in current education theory and practice
  • Experience utilizing a Learning Management System (LMS); experience with the Blackboard Ultra LMS platform preferred

Responsibilities

  • Instruct, manage, and supervise individuals and groups in classrooms, laboratories, and clinicals through using appropriate teaching methods
  • Prepare lesson plans for classroom instruction for the dental hygiene courses
  • Develop and coordinate curriculum; conduct assessments of all courses taught in the department as requested
  • Evaluate effectiveness of courses through student data, graduate surveys, and employer surveys
  • Evaluate instruction and learning by means of appropriate testing and/or evaluation methods
  • Maintain and submit accurate and current reports and records involving student accountability, attendance, performance, and follow-up
  • Coordinate cooperative work experience programs and students as assigned
  • Assist with completion of reports and requests for information from internal and external departments and agencies
  • Ensure compliance with dental hygiene accreditation standards of regional and national accrediting agencies
  • Attend and assist with coordinating dental hygiene advisory committee for the department
  • Participate in College committees and meetings
  • Collaborate with colleagues on common curriculum areas
  • Develop program syllabi, goals, and objectives
  • Maintain a student-oriented approach to education
  • Assist department head and/or program coordinator, faculty, and department staff in maintaining an effective program
  • Assist with recruitment, retention, and job placement efforts

  • Communicate and interact professionally, with college employees, students, and visitors, utilizing excellent organizational and customer service skills
  • Improve professionally and maintain currency in the courses taught by: Reading and utilizing materials found in trade, technical, and professional publications; Surveying and researching industrial and business establishments; Obtaining and maintaining certification and degree as required; Attending professional and specialty courses; Keeping abreast of new development trends, and techniques
