About The Position

The instructor’s primary responsibilities are to provide active and effective learning for students in all applicable educational settings, act as professional and academic role models and commit to student satisfaction. This includes teaching in classrooms, labs, and outside the classroom during campus and student activities. This position delivers high-quality instruction to students, combining theoretical knowledge with practical, hands-on experience, develops and implements curriculum, assesses student progress, and ensures adherence to industry standards and best practices.

Requirements

  • Associate of Science degree in Dental Hygiene from an accredited institution required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in any discipline required; a degree in a health-related field is preferred.
  • Current Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH) license in the State of California, in good standing and without restrictions or encumbrances, required.
  • Four years of occupational experience as a Registered Dental Hygienist required.
  • Direct, specialized knowledge and demonstrated expertise in the assigned area of instruction.
  • Demonstrated professional competency and technical expertise sufficient to provide effective instruction, demonstration, supervision, and evaluation of students.
  • Design and deliver engaging, relevant educational content aligned with established curriculum, course objectives, and program outcomes.
  • Adapt instructional methods and learning activities to address diverse student learning styles, needs, and levels of preparedness.
  • Establish positive rapport with students, clinical partners, faculty, staff, and other stakeholders while fostering a respectful and supportive learning environment.
  • Remain current with advancements, standards, technology, and professional practices within dental hygiene and incorporate relevant developments into instruction.
  • Evaluate student academic, laboratory, and/or clinical performance objectively and provide timely, constructive feedback that supports student development.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing, with students, colleagues, leadership, and external partners.
  • Demonstrate sound judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Maintain confidentiality and manage student, employee, clinical, and organizational information with appropriate discretion.
  • Work effectively in a fast-paced environment in which deadlines are essential and multiple priorities or projects may need to be managed simultaneously.
  • Obtain, interpret, understand, and apply information and data relevant to the essential functions of the position.
  • Develop and maintain effective, long-term relationships with students, colleagues, clinical partners, and other stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Organize and deliver class objectives in a clear, concise manner
  • Foster and maintain an orderly, controlled, and safe environment for students in classrooms and labs
  • Maintain and prepare training aids, tools, and equipment in the classroom and lab
  • Maintain curriculum accuracy by keeping up to date on industry standards and practices
  • Evaluate student performance through assignments, exams, and practical assessments
  • Provide constructive feedback and support to students to help them achieve academic and professional success
  • Identify and report on any at-risk students; creates individualized success plans to mitigate attrition
  • Foster relationships with students to help them meet program competency requirements
  • Provide periodic and ad-hoc reporting to stakeholders
  • Meet with students and education personnel to discuss instructional programs and related issues
  • Provide and maintain regular, substantive interaction with students in online course components
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and progress
  • Deliver engaging lectures and lab sessions on assigned topics, diagnostic procedures, equipment operation and troubleshooting, etc.
