Dental Assistant (Expanded Function)
About The Position
Seymour Johnson Air Force Base is located in Goldsboro, North Carolina, and the 4th Fighter Wing is its host unit. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation; salary negotiation may be available for candidates who are new to Federal service. The Dental Assistant (Expanded Function) provides chairside assistance during restorative, surgical, periodontal, prosthodontic, and endodontic treatment. The position restores teeth prepared by a dentist and performs other reversible intra-oral procedures. Duties also include maintaining dental station supplies and cleanliness, sterilizing instruments and equipment, helping patients complete medical histories, recording examination and treatment information provided by the dentist, and instructing patients in preventive dental care. The role requires expanded-function training and qualifying education and/or experience, including radiology-related credentials or qualifications where applicable. Employment is subject to background and security requirements, medical examination and immunization screening, influenza vaccination or an accepted exemption, and pre-employment and random drug testing. Work may involve irregular schedules, evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call hours.
Requirements
- One year of specialized experience performing intra-oral procedures, instructing patients in proper dental techniques, and operating dental X-ray equipment; or qualifying education; or a combination of education and experience meeting the stated qualification formula.
- Applicants must have completed one year of acceptable coursework, preceptorship, formal training, and/or work assignments designed to provide the knowledge and skills required for the intra-oral procedures in the position.
- Radiology credentials or qualifying training and experience meeting applicable federal radiographer standards are required for radiologic procedures.
- Must be a U.S. citizen and provide proof of U.S. citizenship.
- Must satisfy background investigation and personnel security requirements, including periodic re-verification due to recurring interaction with people under age 18.
- Must consent to seasonal influenza vaccination or provide a recognized exemption.
- Must complete pre-employment screening and consent to random drug testing.
- Must complete a pre-placement medical examination and immunization screening; Hepatitis B immunization is required for positions with direct patient contact.
- Male applicants born after December 31, 1959 must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
- Must complete a one-year probationary period.
- Direct deposit of pay is required.
Responsibilities
