About The Position

Ohio Dental Outreach, a school-based mobile dental practice, is seeking a full-time Expanded Function Dental Assistant (EFDA) to serve Columbus, Ohio, and surrounding areas. The role helps provide dental care to underserved children at their schools through mobile dental clinics. The program offers a distinct alternative to a traditional dental practice, with a school-day schedule that typically ends around 3:00 P.M. and no nights or weekends. Work locations require local travel to schools, sometimes for more than two hours, and the position involves working in a fast-paced environment with children and adults. The EFDA provides expanded-function dental assisting services and digital X-ray imaging, charts patient records, assists with equipment setup, breakdown, and sterilization, and travels daily between school sites. The position involves working with portable dental equipment and may require unloading and reloading equipment between the mobile van and school locations. The employee must follow safety guidelines to protect themselves and patients from infectious disease risks and X-ray exposure. Smile Programs is an in-school dental program serving children through partnerships with state-licensed dental professionals. It provides preventive and restorative care at schools using portable equipment or self-contained mobile dental facilities. The organization reports being active in 20 states and partnering with more than 8,000 school districts.
