About The Position

Columbia Modern Dentistry is seeking a Dental Assistant in Training to learn and perform basic dental assisting functions under the direct supervision of a licensed dentist and in accordance with applicable state rules. The role supports patient care and a positive patient experience while learning infection control, procedure preparation, chairside support, patient instruction, and digital chart documentation. Radiographs and intra-oral pictures may be completed only at the dentist’s direction and after all state radiation-safety requirements are met.

• No prior dental experience is required.

Responsibilities

• Learn and perform basic dental assisting functions under the direct supervision of a licensed dentist and in accordance with the applicable state’s Dental Auxiliaries Table of Permitted Duties.
• Learn to keep patients focused on optimal treatment while addressing their individual needs and concerns as part of the Perfect Patient Experience.
• Learn and complete infection-control procedures for sterilization and operatory cleaning and disinfection to help ensure the safety of patients and team members.
• Complete radiographs and intra-oral pictures at the dentist’s direction, after completing all state requirements regarding radiation safety.
• Prepare for patient-care procedures, including preparing the patient and procedure tray, providing basic supportive chairside assistance, and ensuring the patient is handed off to the front desk for a follow-up appointment.
• Instruct patients on postoperative and general oral health care as directed by the dentist.
• Record patient charting and treatment notes in the digital patient chart as directed by the dentist.
• Present treatment records, consents, and health history to the dentist before patient treatment.
• Maintain compliance with applicable state, federal, and other regulations and policies, including OSHA, WC, Dental Board, HIPAA, ADA, DOL, and HR policies and practices.
