About The Position

This is an entry-level position at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) School of Dental Medicine. Individuals selected will receive on-the-job training to perform various duties based on the clinical area they are hired into. Responsibilities include checking in patients, collecting and inputting patient information into electronic records, scheduling and confirming appointments, verifying patient eligibility for dental treatment, processing payments, assisting students in reviewing patient records for treatment completion and financial obligations, confirming co-payments, ensuring dental cassettes and instruments are sterilized and properly maintained, dispensing dental materials and instruments, and potentially providing basic dental assistance under supervision in areas like diagnostics, preventive, and restorative dentistry. The work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent education.
  • One year of general work and/or volunteer experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must submit a letter of interest (cover letter) and a detailed resume listing qualifications and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Check in patients for their dental appointment.
  • Collect and input patient information into the electronic patient record.
  • Schedule, confirm, and cancel dental appointments for patients.
  • Confirm patient eligibility for dental treatment.
  • Process patient cash, check, or credit card payments.
  • Assist students in reviewing patients' dental records for completion of treatment and resolution of financial obligations.
  • In collaboration with attending dental students, confirm co-payments and ensure the patient is aware of the proper amount to collect.
  • Ensure all dental cassettes and instruments are processed through sterilization.
  • Ensure all dental cassettes are complete and in good condition for next use.
  • Ensure all kits are wrapped and labeled with type of cassette, sterilizer number, and the date the cassette was sterilized.
  • Ensure all handpieces are maintained according to manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Ensure all cassettes are properly sterilized and stored according to Occupational Safety and Health Administration Sterilization guidelines.
  • Use proper infection control procedures while transporting instruments to sterilization.
  • Dispense dental materials and instruments to dental students using the dental tracking system.
  • Provide dental assistance to dental students and faculty within the School of Dental Medicine clinical programs (under close supervision for recent graduates).
  • Assist in all areas of dental treatment including diagnostics, preventive, restorative dentistry, periodontics, endodontics, orthodontics, oral surgery, pediatric dentistry, and prosthodontics (under close supervision for recent graduates).
  • Provide basic dental assistance in areas of dental treatment including diagnostics, preventive and restorative dentistry (under close supervision for recent graduates).
