About The Position
The Hartford HealthCare Center for Healthy Aging is a resource and assessment center designed to make it easier for seniors, their loved ones and caregivers to access essential information and services to attain the optimal quality of life. The Dementia Specialist provides a wide range of services. One of their vital roles is conducting home, office and telephonic assessments and coaching caregivers who are caring for a person with dementia. As coaches they teach caregivers effective strategies that can improve the quality of life for them and persons with dementia. They help caregivers understand and accept the behaviors seen in dementia, learn how to simplify tasks so the person with dementia can participate more fully and safely in his/her own care and continue to find pleasure, learn to speak in a new way, accommodating the language changes dementia brings. Another key element of their role is curriculum development and education to caregivers, the community and professionals.
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years’ experience working with persons with dementia and their caregivers
- Bachelor’s degree in the human services field
- Experience conducting care and needs assessments
- Excellent communication, presentation and public speaking ability
- Unencumbered driver's license
- Reliable transportation
- Ability to travel in the local area regularly
