About The Position

The Delicatessen Clerk handles food safely and keeps the work area clean and neat. The role includes serving customers and team members courteously and efficiently, taking deli orders, preparing and replenishing products, maintaining food freshness and adequate supply, and operating department registers where applicable. The clerk follows sanitation, hygiene, dress, company, and store guidelines and works with coworkers to support customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment. The position involves daily contact with the general public and customers, as well as contact with government or regulatory agencies regarding inspections. Employment is contingent upon successfully completing a pre-employment drug screen.

Requirements

Able to understand and follow verbal or demonstrated instructions, write identifying information, and request supplies orally or in writing.
Able to perform arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.
Less than high school education or equivalent experience, with six months or less of similar or related work experience.
Able to perform medium work: exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 20 pounds frequently, and 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
Visual abilities include clarity of vision at distances greater than 20 inches and less than 20 feet, with or without correction, color vision, depth perception, and field of vision.
Able to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, grasp, feel, talk, hear, and perform repetitive motions.
Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen is required.

Responsibilities

Provide prompt, efficient, friendly customer service, treating customers as the most important people in the store.
Greet customers, learn and use their names when possible, help them find or reach products, assist with heavy items, and pass along suggestions or requests.
Answer customer calls promptly and helpfully, including taking orders; take orders at the delicatessen counter.
Work with coworkers to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment.
Review the day's orders and food status and appearance for freshness.
Follow proper sanitation procedures and keep the work area clean and neat.
Ensure adequate food supply, develop or follow a production list, anticipate product needs, and prepare, finish, and replenish products as needed.
Check in and put away products and, when applicable, review invoices.
Operate department registers, receive payments, and make change where applicable.
Remove trash promptly and follow department and company guidelines for personal hygiene, dress, and conduct.
Report to work as scheduled and on time.
Wash dishes as needed; order products and supplies as needed; deliver orders as needed; and price products for customers as needed.
Assist in other store areas and perform other job-related duties and special projects as required.
