About The Position

The Delicatessen Clerk handles food safely, keeps the work area clean and neat, operates department registers and processes payments where applicable, and provides courteous, friendly, and efficient service to customers and team members. The role supports daily deli operations by reviewing orders and food freshness, maintaining adequate product supplies, preparing and replenishing products, and following sanitation, hygiene, dress, company, and store guidelines. The position requires being at least 18 years old. It is a fast-paced work environment with daily exposure to dust, noise, equipment movement hazards, and electrical shock, and occasional exposure to temperature extremes and cleaning chemicals or solvents.

Requirements

Must be at least 18 years old.
Be able to understand and follow verbal or demonstrated instructions, write identifying information, and request supplies orally or in writing.
Be able to solve arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.
Be able to perform medium work: exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 20 pounds frequently, and 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
Visual requirements include clarity of vision at distances greater than 20 inches and less than 20 feet, with or without correction, color vision, depth perception, and field of vision.
Be able to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, grasp, feel, talk, hear, and perform repetitive motions.
Education and experience: less than high school or equivalent experience and six months or less of similar or related work experience.

Responsibilities

Provide prompt, efficient, friendly customer service and treat customers as the most important people in the store.
Smile, greet customers, learn their names when possible, and assist with locating or reaching products, handling heavy items, and communicating customer suggestions or requests.
Answer telephone calls promptly and provide helpful service, including taking customer orders.
Take customer orders at the delicatessen counter.
Work with co-workers as a team to support customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment.
Review the day's orders.
Follow sanitation procedures and keep the work area clean and neat.
Review food freshness and appearance.
Ensure adequate food supplies are ready and available; develop or follow a production list and anticipate daily product needs.
Prepare, finish, and replenish products as necessary.
Check in and put away products and review invoices as needed.
Operate department registers, receive payments, and make change where applicable.
Remove trash in a timely manner.
Follow department and company guidelines for personal hygiene and dress, as well as company policies and store guidelines.
Report to work as scheduled and on time.
Wash dishes as necessary.
Order products and supplies as necessary.
Deliver orders as needed.
Price products for customers as necessary.
Assist in other store areas and perform other job-related duties and special projects as required.
