About The Position

Buehler’s Deli Cooks prepare food for the Restaurants, Deli, and Catering departments, ensuring each department has the food it needs each day. The role works closely with the manager and co-workers to support customer experiences in the store and at catered events. Cooks prepare a variety of foods while following established food production programs and procedures.

The position requires dependability, flexibility, attention to detail, teamwork, and the ability to work productively with minimal supervision. The schedule must accommodate customer demand, including weekends and special holidays. Duties may change without notice and are not limited to those listed.

Requirements

• Be at least 18 years old; applicants aged 16–17 may not operate equipment such as a slicer or buffalo chopper.
• Be able to occasionally stand, reach, lift, bend, kneel, stoop, climb, push, and pull items weighing 50–80 pounds.
• Have manual dexterity and auditory and visual skills, and be able to follow written and oral instructions and procedures and perform simple math.
• Be able to work in a deli or kitchen environment with frequent exposure to heat, steam, fire, and noise.
• Be dependable, reliable, and flexible with scheduling to accommodate customer demand, including weekends.
• Work well in a team and maintain composure during busy periods and special holidays.
• Work with minimal supervision while remaining productive.

Nice To Haves

• Previous Prep Cook experience; new teammates are also welcome and can be trained.

Responsibilities

• Plan and prepare the department’s food needs.
• Set up, organize, and prepare food using established production procedures and systems.
• Follow sanitation, health, personal hygiene, housekeeping, and food-handling standards; keep the work area clean.
• Store food safely and properly, labeling it with the date and item.
• Assist Line Cooks when needed.
• Assist the Deli Department when needed.
• Support the Deli, Catering, and Restaurant teams by ensuring they have the food needed for the day.
• Prepare food with attention to presentation and follow recipes and exact measurements.
