About The Position

The Deli Clerk at Sprouts Farmers Market helps customers make healthy food choices by preparing fresh, convenient meals. The role provides customer service and ensures deli items are properly prepared, packaged, and presented. It also includes stocking and rotating products, preparing special orders and party trays, operating deli equipment, receiving and checking deliveries, and maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary department. The position works in a fast-paced grocery environment and may include other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Be at least 18 years of age.
• Have a high school diploma or equivalent and experience working in grocery, restaurant, or a related field, or an acceptable combination of education and experience.
• Be dependable and reliable.
• Demonstrate outgoing, friendly behavior and a positive attitude, with the ability to interact with customers.
• Be able to work a flexible schedule that may change with business needs, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Have good communication skills and the ability to take direction and participate in a team environment.
• Be able to lift and carry products weighing up to 70 pounds, without mechanical assistance, from 4 to 60 inches high for up to 20 feet, for up to four hours.
• Be able to stand continuously for up to four hours, for a total of eight hours per shift.
• Be able to work in different temperature environments, including coolers and freezers.
• Operate slicers, wrapping equipment, and cooking equipment.
• Adhere to safety, health, and Weights and Measures regulations and achieve and maintain a Food Handlers permit.

Responsibilities

• Help customers make healthy food choices by preparing fresh and convenient meals.
• Provide a high level of customer service and ensure deli items are properly prepared, packaged, and presented.
• Keep the Deli department clean.
• Fill, maintain, and rotate products and displays.
• Prepare special orders and party trays.
• Operate meat and cheese slicers, ovens, microwaves, cutting tools, scales, and other deli equipment according to company standards and procedures.
• Clean and maintain the deli area and equipment, including shelves and products; keep floors clear of spills and hazardous debris and sweep as needed.
• Receive, inspect, and log products for shipment accuracy, temperature, and quality.
• Answer phones and take special orders.
• Perform general housekeeping and clean and sanitize work areas, including tables, floors, walls, cases, coolers, and freezers.
• Assist in maintaining slicing, wrapping, and cooking equipment in safe working condition.
• Follow safety, health, and Weights and Measures regulations and maintain a Food Handlers permit.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
