About The Position

The Deli Clerk works in Sprouts Farmers Market’s deli department, preparing and cooking fresh meals, helping customers make healthy food choices, and providing a high level of customer service. The role includes maintaining product displays and department cleanliness, preparing special orders, and safely operating deli equipment according to company standards and procedures. The position requires working in a fast-paced environment, interacting with customers and team members, following food safety and sanitation requirements, and performing physical work such as standing for extended periods, lifting and carrying products, and working in cooler and freezer environments. Other related duties may be assigned.

Requirements

Be at least 18 years of age.
Have a high school diploma or equivalent and experience in grocery, restaurant, or a related field, or an acceptable combination of education and experience.
Be dependable and reliable.
Demonstrate outgoing, friendly behavior, a positive attitude, and the ability to interact with customers.
Be able to work a flexible schedule that changes with business needs, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Have good communication skills and the ability to take direction and participate in a team environment.
Be able to answer phones and take special orders.
Be able to lift and carry products weighing up to 70 pounds, from 4 to 60 inches high, for up to 20 feet without mechanical assistance, for up to 4 hours.
Be able to stand continuously for up to 4 hours and for a total of 8 hours per shift.
Be able to work in different temperature environments, including cooler and freezer areas.
Achieve and maintain a Food Handlers permit.

Responsibilities

Help customers make healthy food choices by preparing fresh and easy meals.
Provide a high level of customer service and ensure deli items are properly prepared, packaged, and presented.
Maintain cleanliness of the deli department and its equipment.
Fill, maintain, and rotate products and displays.
Prepare special orders and party trays; answer phones and take special orders.
Operate meat and cheese slicers, ovens, microwaves, cutting tools, scales, wrapping and cooking equipment, following company standards and procedures.
Clean and sanitize the work area and equipment, including shelves, products, tables, floors, walls, cases, coolers, and freezers; keep floors clear of spills and hazardous debris and sweep as needed.
Receive, inspect, and log products for shipment accuracy, temperature, and quality.
Help maintain equipment in safe working condition.
Follow safety, health, and Weights and Measures regulations and maintain a Food Handlers permit.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
