About The Position

As a Deicer / Salt Operator, you'll play a vital role in preventing hazardous winter conditions by applying deicing materials to commercial properties before, during, and after snow and ice events. Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Valid New York State Driver's License (CDL is a plus but not required)
  • General understanding of or experience operating manual transmission/clutch-powered equipment
  • Ability to look over shoulder, twist, and turn body/neck repeatedly for long hours
  • Ability to safely operate equipment in snow, ice, and low-visibility conditions
  • Ability to work extended hours during snow events
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Willingness to be on call to work variable hours, including weekends, holidays, and overtime.
  • Reliable transportation to report for work
  • Must be able to use a tablet for service documentation
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience operating salting, deicing, or snow removal equipment preferred; training will be provided for qualified candidates

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate salt trucks, spreaders, and other deicing equipment to apply deicing materials to commercial parking lots, drive lanes, roadways, sidewalks, and other designated areas.
  • Monitor weather conditions and respond quickly to snow and ice events.
  • Respond to winter weather events within 30 minutes of being contacted.
  • Work overnight, early morning, weekend, holiday, and extended shifts during snow and ice events.
  • Safely load and unload deicing materials into trucks and equipment using tracked skid steer.
  • Ensure assigned properties are serviced thoroughly, safely, and according to company standards and customer contracts.
  • Perform pre-shift and post-shift inspections of vehicles, spreaders, and related equipment.
  • Maintain clean, fueled, and ready-to-operate equipment throughout the season.
  • Perform basic equipment maintenance and report mechanical issues or equipment malfunctions to your supervisor immediately.
  • Accurately document completed services using a tablet while on-site.
  • Maintain communication with supervisors regarding route progress, weather conditions, and operational needs.
  • Follow all company policies, procedures, DOT regulations (when applicable), and safety standards.
  • Assist with other snow removal or seasonal property maintenance duties as assigned.
