About The Position

Aircraft De-icers work as part of a team to safely and efficiently operate aircraft de-icing trucks for the purpose of de-icing aircraft during inclement weather while ensuring the well-being of self and all internal and external stakeholders. This is a seasonal full-time job with scheduled seasonal lay-off and recall that occur every year.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum 18 years of age
  • Ability to pass an extended background check
  • Flexible availability
  • Basic computer skills with working knowledge of Microsoft programs and the ability to learn how to use internal computer programs
  • Ability to read, write, speak and communicate effectively
  • Ability to interpret documents including safety rules, operating and procedure manuals
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to maintain a positive and good-natured attitude
  • Must be comfortable working at various heights
  • Must be comfortable operating large vehicles during inclement weather in constricted areas
  • Ability to remain calm and perform under pressure and within fixed time constraints
  • Ability to obtain and maintain all security clearances required by Transport Canada or TSA and/or local Airport Authorities
  • Ability to pass pre-employment background screenings

Nice To Haves

  • Past experience in a 24/7 operational environment would be an asset
  • Basic knowledge of aircraft and how they perform would be an asset
  • Basic mechanical competence and ability to effectively use hand tools would be an asset

Responsibilities

  • Promote and adhere to our safety and respectful workplace culture and instilling this culture while ensuring safety and regulatory compliance with all employee-focused regulations and state and federal rules and regulations;
  • Operate equipment within close proximity to airfield personnel, aircraft and other airfield equipment safely and efficiently;
  • Be alert and aware of other apron traffic, and to only begin de-icing when it can be done safely without interfering with aircraft movement. AIRCRAFT ALWAYS HAVE THE RIGHT OF WAY;
  • Promptly and accurately complete all associated paperwork as required;
  • Professionally communicate with aircraft operators (pilots), spraying operators, GRV operators, and other stakeholders in a clear and concise manner via two-way radio;
  • Ensure proper shutdown of pads, including paperwork and logbooks; that all maintenance issues have been logged and reported to maintenance and all proper shutdown procedures for the equipment are followed;
  • Comply with all Government Labour, Health and Safety laws, regulations and policies;
  • Abide by Inland’s procedural handbooks, operational plans, and directives of management to ensure that all work is done according to specifications and/or regulations;
  • Testing of aircraft de-icing fluids as required;
  • Perform daily Vehicle walk-around inspections utilizing appropriate checklists;
  • Promote the best interest of the company by fostering goodwill and support between IDS and its customers ensuring that Inland’s policy of superior service and satisfaction are met;
  • Foster a team environment and create a “group culture”;
