POSITION SUMMARY:
The primary function of this position is to assist Aquatics Management with on-deck member engagement, supervision, and training of the Lifeguard staff. An additional key responsibility includes acting as the leader/first responder in the event of a medical, rescue or exposure emergency, either accidental or job-related in the Aquatics Area.

This position is offering 16 hours a week as a Deck Supervisor + additional hours, Monday through Friday as a lifeguard (flexible days and times).

Required Deck Supervisor shifts: Saturday's and Sundays

DECK SUPERVISOR Shifts:

Additional LIFEGUARD shifts available:
Monday - Friday (days and times are flexible)

Requirements

• Minimum age of 17
• Minimum of two full years as a Lifeguard, preferably in a multiple-pool and/or water recreational facility
• Certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid and obtain Emergency Oxygen (within 30 days).
• Current YMCA or ARC Lifeguard or equivalent
• Ability to maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness
• Must demonstrate Lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards

Nice To Haves

• Certification as a Lifeguard Instructor preferred.

Responsibilities

• Serving as on-deck supervisor of Lifeguards and/or Aquatic programs and activities either in conjunction with, or in the absence of Aquatics Management.
• Leading Aquatics emergency response team in the event of a medical, rescue or exposure emergency.
• Serving as on-deck point of contact for members and program participants and providing high-quality member engagement and a safety.
• Assisting with conducting Lifeguard orientation, in-service and on-the-job training.
• Adhering to Somerset County YMCA quality standards, YMCA Aquatic safety standards and standards and guidelines set forth by the American Red Cross and/or American Heart Association in accordance with Somerset County YMCA policies and procedures.
• Monitoring pool chemical readings every two hours.
• Conducting daily pool equipment, slide and water feature inspections.
• Monitoring pool filtration equipment in the absence of the Pool Technician or Aquatics Management (W/CPO Certification).
• Reporting defects, chemical imbalances, equipment operation malfunctions and any other safety related matters to Aquatics Management.
• Opening and closing the pool(s) and other natatoriums with Lifeguard assistance.
• Assigning and implementing daily Lifeguard rotation schedule.
• Maintaining a clean pool environment to include cleaning all decks, equipment, stainless steel, and slides with the assistance of the Lifeguards.
• Serving as a Lifeguard or Swim Instructor as assigned by Aquatics Management.
• Maintaining all required certifications.
• Attending trainings, seminars and meetings as required.
• Exhibiting emotional and cognitive abilities to carry out job responsibilities.
• Establishing and maintaining appropriate professional relationships, interpersonal skills to interact effectively with individuals and groups respecting social and cultural diversity and maintaining appropriate boundaries.
• Adhering and incorporating the YMCA values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility and educating members about the YMCA mission and goals.
• Complying with all Somerset County YMCA Policies and Procedures.
• Performing other duties as assigned.
