About The Position

The Deck Operator is responsible for ensuring the proper coverage of material by following specific procedures related to electrical controls, tank maintenance (water levels, temperature, chemical concentrations, pH levels), and chemical additions. This role involves careful monitoring of the plater assembly line, arms, and racks to ensure mechanical function and continuous current flow. The operator must be alert for potential issues like short circuits or fallen parts, and must be able to retrieve them. A key aspect of the role is visually inspecting parts to ensure a quality finish for immediate shipment. The Deck Operator also completes Statistical Process Control Charts (SPC), manages chemical availability for the next shift, performs inventory, and shuts down the plater line at the end of the work week, including cleaning various tanks. Minor equipment repairs and maintaining a clean and safe work environment are also required. Special considerations include potential issues for color blind individuals and those with respiratory problems. The role requires being clean-shaven.

Requirements

  • Ability to do Statistical Process Control Charts (SPC).
  • Basic math and chemistry helpful.
  • Problem solving ability important.
  • Must be capable of wearing a respirator.
  • Must be able to differentiate change in color after testing water.
  • Must be clean shaven at all times.
  • Cannot have respiratory problems such as asthma, emphysema or other pulmonary restrictions.

Responsibilities

  • Assures proper coverage of material by following outlined procedures.
  • Ensures electrical controls are at proper settings for electrical current flow.
  • Maintains dip tanks with proper water levels, temperatures, and chemical concentrations (pH levels).
  • Adds acids as necessary and ensures tanks have sufficient nickel and steel chips for proper coating.
  • Performs tests, visual checks, and adjustments for proper coating.
  • Cleans filters weekly.
  • Monitors plater assembly line, arms, and racks for mechanical function and continuous current flow.
  • Identifies and addresses burning or short circuits, fallen arms, racks, and parts.
  • Retrieves fallen racks or parts from the bottom of tanks.
  • Secures or replaces loose parts as needed.
  • Visually inspects parts for quality finish.
  • Completes Statistical Process Control Charts (SPC) as required.
  • Ensures chemicals are available for the next shift.
  • Performs inventory and lists needed chemicals for each job.
  • Shuts down the plater line at the end of the work week, ensuring proper items are turned off, cleaned, refilled, or recharged.
  • Cleans various tanks at the end of the work week.
  • Performs minor repairs of equipment.
  • Maintains a clean and safe work environment.
  • Other job duties as assigned by supervisor.
