About The Position

The Flat Deck Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of machinery and equipment to various locations in the Lower Mainland using a flat deck truck. This role emphasizes adherence to safety regulations, effective communication with dispatch and team members, and accurate delivery documentation. The Flat Deck Operator plays a critical role in ensuring timely deliveries while maintaining safety and operational standards.

Requirements

  • Valid Class 5 driver’s licence.
  • Acceptable driver’s abstract.
  • Ability to work outdoors and around active construction sites, yards, traffic, equipment, and changing weather conditions.
  • Ability to perform the physical requirements of the role, including climbing, securing loads, handling chains, straps, binders, and tarps, and assisting with loading or unloading when required.
  • Must be fit for duty and able to perform work safely in a safety-sensitive environment.
  • Knowledge of load securement standards, including straps, chains, binders, and tarps.
  • Experience operating flat deck or open-deck trucks.
  • Familiarity with construction site protocols, yard operations, and safety practices.
  • Basic mechanical awareness for vehicle inspections and reporting issues.
  • Ability to safely load, unload, and handle materials and equipment.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Reliable and committed to meeting delivery schedules.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills for route planning, documentation, and record-keeping.
  • Able to problem-solve and adjust to changing schedules, site conditions, and delivery requirements.
  • Professional and respectful when working with customers, site crews, dispatch, and team members.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience driving flat deck, open-deck, or construction delivery trucks preferred.
  • Forklift certification or equipment operating experience considered an asset.
  • Forklift or equipment operating experience is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Operate flat deck trucks safely and in accordance with company policies, provincial regulations, traffic laws, and site requirements.
  • Load, secure, strap, chain, bind, and tarp equipment, materials, and freight for transport.
  • Confirm loads are properly secured and comply with weight, height, balance, and load securement requirements.
  • Deliver equipment, materials, and freight to construction sites, yards, and customer locations as scheduled.
  • Load and unload freight using forklifts or other equipment when required.
  • Verify materials, equipment, part numbers, and delivery documentation for accuracy.
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections and report maintenance, equipment, or safety concerns.
  • Communicate with dispatch, the Rental Equipment Manager, site contacts, customers, and team members to coordinate pickups, deliveries, and schedule changes.
  • Follow site access, traffic control, and safety procedures when entering or working around active construction sites.
  • Plan routes with consideration for timing, road restrictions, site access, and safe delivery requirements.
