About The Position

The Deck Operator is responsible for ensuring proper coverage of material by following specific procedures related to electrical controls, dip tanks, and the plater assembly line. This role involves monitoring equipment, performing quality checks, maintaining chemical levels and temperatures, and completing necessary documentation. The operator also performs minor repairs, maintains a clean and safe work environment, and assists with end-of-week shutdowns and cleaning procedures.

Requirements

  • Ability to do Statistical Process Control Charts (SPC).
  • Basic math and chemistry helpful.
  • Problem-solving ability important.
  • Must be capable of wearing a respirator.
  • Must be clean shaven at all times.
  • Must be able to differentiate change in color after testing water (type of acceptable color blindness depends on needs of test).
  • Cannot have respiratory problems such as asthma, emphysema or other pulmonary restrictions.

Responsibilities

  • Assure proper coverage of material by following outlined procedures.
  • Ensure electrical controls are at proper settings for electrical current flow through arms and racks.
  • Maintain dip tanks with proper water levels and temperatures.
  • Check and maintain proper chemical concentrations (pH levels) in dip tanks, adding acids if necessary.
  • Ensure tanks have sufficient nickel and steel chips for proper coating.
  • Perform tests, visual checks, and adjustments for proper coating.
  • Clean filters once a week.
  • Monitor the plater assembly line, arms, and racks for proper mechanical functioning and continuous current flow.
  • Identify and address issues such as burning or short circuits, fallen arms, racks, and parts.
  • Remove fallen racks or parts from the bottom of tanks.
  • Secure or replace loose parts as needed.
  • Visually inspect parts for a quality finish ready for shipment.
  • Complete Statistical Process Control Charts (SPC) as required.
  • Ensure chemicals are available for the next shift.
  • Perform inventory and list needed chemicals for each job.
  • Shut down the plater line at the end of the work week, ensuring proper shutdown procedures are followed.
  • Clean various tanks at the end of the work week.
  • Perform minor repairs of equipment.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment at all times.
  • Perform other job duties as assigned by the supervisor.
