Decision Science Manager

ZipRecruiter•Santa Monica, CA
•$177,500 - $235,000•Hybrid

About The Position

ZipRecruiter is seeking a Manager, Decision Science to lead its Enterprise Decision Science team. The Enterprise team supports the full lifecycle of how ZipRecruiter’s largest customers find, attract, and hire talent, including performance marketing campaigns, the apply experience, ATS integrations, and signals that help employers identify strong candidates. This is a player-coach role: the manager will develop a small team of decision scientists while personally leading strategic analyses. The role requires sound judgment about how to evaluate initiatives when clean experiments are rare and data may be too limited for formal causal methods. The manager will choose an appropriate level of rigor, using methods such as quasi-experimental designs when supported by the data, or combining directional quantitative evidence with qualitative signals when needed. They will communicate the strength and uncertainty of conclusions clearly to Product, Engineering, and go-to-market partners. The manager will own the Enterprise decision science agenda, set analytical priorities and methodological standards, support team performance and career development, and influence cross-functional direction. They will evaluate Sales-, GTM-, and Customer Success-led initiatives and translate complex findings into actionable recommendations for technical and non-technical audiences, including senior stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field such as mathematics, statistics, computer science, operations research, or economics, or equivalent experience.
  • At least 6 years of analytics or data science experience in a product, engineering, or technology environment.
  • At least 1 year of people management experience, including direct responsibility for performance management and career development.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead data work on important business initiatives and earn the trust of cross-functional and business stakeholders.
  • Experience measuring impact with A/B tests and quasi-experimental or causal inference methods, such as difference-in-differences, synthetic control, or matching, when randomization is not feasible.
  • Sound judgment in low-data situations, including the ability to combine limited quantitative evidence with qualitative signals, make well-reasoned recommendations, and communicate uncertainty honestly.
  • Strong business acumen and demonstrated ability to connect data analysis to measurable business outcomes.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with a track record of synthesizing complex findings for technical and non-technical audiences.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with performance marketing campaign measurement and optimization.
  • Experience analyzing customer retention, churn, and expansion in a B2B or enterprise SaaS business.
  • Experience partnering with Sales, GTM, Rev Ops, or Customer Success teams to evaluate business initiatives.
  • Experience working with small-sample or account-level data, such as B2B customer bases where each customer has an outsized impact.
  • Familiarity with recruiting, HR tech, ATS ecosystems, or two-sided marketplaces.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and coach a team of decision scientists, including reviewing work, setting expectations, and leading performance and career development conversations.
  • Prioritize concurrent projects, align team capacity with Enterprise and company goals, and improve team efficiency, including setting standards for Data and AI tooling.
  • Personally lead strategic analyses in the Enterprise area and set methodological standards, pressure-test causal claims, and coach the team on appropriate levels of analytical rigor.
  • Own the decision science agenda for Enterprise, partnering with stakeholders to identify valuable questions and set analytical priorities.
  • Evaluate initiatives led by Sales, GTM, and Customer Success using the strongest approach the available data supports, potentially combining quantitative evidence with qualitative signals and account-level context.
  • Clearly communicate the confidence and uncertainty associated with analytical conclusions.
  • Partner with Enterprise Product, Engineering, Rev Ops, Sales/GTM leadership, and Customer Success as a trusted Decision Science partner.
  • Influence cross-functional direction and prioritization, identify new opportunities to partner, and deliver clear, actionable recommendations to technical and non-technical audiences.
